truck holding sand to be used on the ccmhs baseball field

A HUGE thank you to Mr. Toby Washinger and his crew, Mrs. Sharon Sanders, and Mr. Jeff Avant at Atlanta Sand for top dressing our baseball field! We use them periodically to aerate, verticut, and top dress our field to maintain a healthy and safe play surface.

We were fortunate to be able to partner with Atlanta Sand and get the required volume needed for the baseball field. The county also graciously donated the trucks to get the six loads of sand to our facility.

Once the sand has covered the entire field, they bring two more tractors back out that have an aerator and level attached. The aerator pulls plugs out of the soil and creates a perforated surface, allowing the soil to breathe and receive water and air while also relieving compactness from playing traffic, thatch, and natural build up.

The leveling aspect helps create a smooth playing surface, filling the aerated holes in the soil with a porous sand to promote root growth, breaking up the plugs, and leveling the sand that has been spread.
